Penthouse at NYC's Famed Barbizon Women's Hotel Asks $17.75M

New, 14 comments

The penthouse atop the former all-women's hotel covers 5,000 interior and exterior square feet

The Barbizon, one of the city's most prominent all-women hotels of the early 20th century, was gutted and remade into a condo called Barbizon 63 in 2005. Now, one of the building's penthouses is on the market, sporting a much higher-end look than the hotel when it was a haven for women leaving home to pursue work in the big city. The penthouse at 140 East 63rd Street, at the corner of Lexington Avenue, is looking for $17.75 million, and comes kitted out with a thoroughly modern renovation that incorporates historic elements like the terraces' picturesque moorish brick arches. Including in the price tag is a lower-floor studio, "perfect for a guest suite, assistant, or au pair." The penthouse last sold in 2013 for $10.18 million.
