Penthouse of Annabelle Selldorf's Bowery Condo Poised to Decimate Record

New, 7 comments

The Bowery's gritty golden years are officially over

Well, that was fast: a mere five days after it hit the market, the penthouse of 347 Bowery has already entered contract. The penthouse unit, a nearly 4,000-square-foot pad that occupies the top three floors of the condo tower, was last listed for $17 million; if it closes for the full asking price, it could break the record for the most expensive condo ever sold on the Bowery. (Compass declined to comment further on the sale.) The record was previously held by a penthouse at Morris Adjmi’s 250 Bowery, which closed for $5.5 million last year.

So far, only two apartments in the Annabelle Selldorf-designed 347 Bowery have hit the market: in addition to the penthouse, a three-bedroom duplex asking $7.5 million is still up for grabs. And considering that the building, which is rising on the former site of a Salvation Army shelter, only has five units, this is a pretty big deal. (It’s also pretty much the nail in the coffin of the gritty Bowery of yore, but that's been coming for a while now, hasn’t it?)
