Nearly two years after the project was first announced construction is finally underway on the six-story addition to a former garage on Elizabeth Street in Nolita, Bowery Boogie reports. Architect Ron Ervolino purchased the single-story building at 242 Elizabeth Street for $2.8 million in 2007, but he waited for quite a while before he decided he wanted to build a luxury rental building.
The 1,800 square foot base will remain and will likely be used as a commercial space again. Ervolino will build the six-story structure on top of that, and it will include four full-floor apartments and a duplex penthouse. The project will be built at an estimated cost of $5.9 million, and a rendering for the building was recently posted at the construction site and can be seen below.
