Upper West Side Fixer-Upper Filled With Lovely Period Details Wants $8M

This gorgeous townhouse needs a lot of love

Compared to some of the townhouse listings we’ve seen recently on the Upper West Side (to say nothing of its crosstown counterpart), this five-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom house (with an elevator!) on West 71st Street is a steal: it’s asking $7.995 million.

Of course, there’s a caveat: according to the listing, it's "in need of a renovation," though the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems have all gotten an upgrade. Some of the interior photos show why that might be the case, including the fact that both the kitchen and the bathroom are a bit outdated. Still, there’s plenty of charm to the place, including turn-of-the-20th-century stained-glass windows, and original molding and hardwood floors throughout.

In addition to its many bedrooms and bathrooms, the house also has a private backyard with its own little deck; a library; high ceilings; two wood-burning fireplaces; and a basement, which also needs its own renovation. So for the right buyer—namely, one who has money to spare and doesn’t mind a reno project—this could be a pretty good deal.
