Most New Yorkers choose to ignore their neighbor to the west, as if commuting from the other side of the Hudson River was really, truly, deeply that different from commuting from the other side of the East River. But Jersey is having a moment. It has shops. It has bars. And it has lots of new housing that’s luring New Yorkers by the day. So it’s time to ask: what can you rent in Jersey for the price of what you can rent in NYC? Here we look at the options at the $2,550 price point.
↑ Sure it’s on Park Avenue, but we’re talking about Park Avenue in Fort Lee, NJ. A one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom apartment in the new high rise The Modern is renting for $2,550 per month, no fee. The apartment comes with a washer and dryer, walk-in closet, and an en-suite bathroom. There’s a ton of amenities in the building—75,000 square feet of ‘em—that include a gym with a spa, sauna, and pool; an indoor/outdoor movie theater; and a golf simulator. The building also hosts weekly "Food Truck Tuesdays" and brings in city favorite like Luke’s Lobster and The Empanada Lady. It takes 43 minutes, by way of a bus and a transfer to the A train, to get to Times Square.
↑ In Brooklyn, a lofted one-bedroom, one-bathroom rental in Park Slope is looking for $2,550/month. The apartment’s kitchen has been updated with stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher, and the apartment has a decently-sized terrace. The small building at 230 16th Street isn’t infused with the same amenities as The Modern, but it’s just a ten minute walk from the southwest corner of Prospect Park. It takes about 45 minutes by the F or R to get to Times Square.
