Only in New York City is a $2.9 million penthouse considered a pretty good deal, but the fact remains, a 1,100-square-foot apartment like this doesn’t come around very often. The brokerbabble touts this Central Park West penthouse as "an oasis in the sky," and for once, we’re inclined to agree: Two dreamy terraces off a huge living room are accessed by quaint French doors, and they’re filled with landscaped topiary and other charming greenery. The views of the park, reservoir and Manhattan in all its glory can’t be underestimated, but it is a trade-off: the apartment has only one bedroom and one bathroom.
Located at 336 Central Park West, the building was constructed in 1929 as a 15-story residence in the Art Deco style, so the apartment is filled with delightful pre-war details, but features a fairly modern looking chef’s kitchen. Twelve massive picture windows—most of the apartments in the building have them—bring in light from the north, west, and east.
The building amenities include a "children’s playroom," which you’ll need if you have kids who are essentially forced to sleep in with you or in the living room. Or maybe they can pitch a tent on the terrace and pretend they’re camping out? There’s also a live-in super, plus laundry and storage rooms. Pied-a-térres are allowed, but your monthly maintenance fees are still $3,266, bringing the grand monthly total to nearly $16,000.
