Yesterday’s stunt on the Trump Tower, wherein a young man attempted to scale the building using suction cups, ended pretty much as expected. Police apprehended the climber after more than two hours (and after traffic on Fifth Avenue basically came to a halt), and now, he’s been charged by the NYPD with reckless endangerment and trespassing, according to the New York Times.
The climber has been identified as Stephen Rogata, a 19-year-old from Great Falls, Virginia. According to the Times, "The police said Mr. Rogata told them his stunt had a simple motivation: He wanted to meet Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee." A video, in which he urges people to vote for Trump in November’s presidential election, seems to back up that claim.
Trump’s response, meanwhile, was uncharacteristically understated (though, predictably, delivered in the form of a Tweet):
Great job today by the NYPD in protecting the people and saving the climber.
