The mixed-use project at the former Trump Village Shopping Center is already underway. Real estate firm Cammeby’s International Group has released new plans for the project, entitled, Neptune/Sixth, that disclose how the project will unfold. The renderings look a bit different from the previous version, though no drastic changes to the development appear to be evident. According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, the project is being designed by S9 Architecture and will be split between two locations–one at 532 Neptune Avenue and the other at 626 Sheepshead Bay Road. The Neptune Avenue building will become Coney Island’s tallest tower, standing at 40 stories high. This building will house about 90,000 square feet of retail space as well as residential units. The Sheepshead Bay building will stand at just seven stories with 161,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. In addition to the commercial and retail spaces, the project will incorporate public spaces and more than 800 parking spaces.
Of course, the project continues to be met with concerns from the community. Residents are worried that construction would release toxic chemicals from the site’s past as a gas plant, among other things.
Construction on the building at the Sheesphead Bay address is already taking place and is expected to be completed as early as next summer. Phase two, the Neptune Avenue building, will reportedly break ground in late 2017.
