Five buildings on East 11th Street may be demolished to make way for a hotel

Lightstone Group’s plans for a new development near Webster Hall are one step closer to becoming a reality. EV Grieve reports that the developer has filed plans with the Department of Buildings to demolish five buildings across the street from the storied music venue, between 112 and 120 East 11th Street.

Nothing’s been approved yet, but rumor has it that the site could give way to a 300-room hotel by Marriott’s millennial-focused brand, Moxy. Lending credence to the rumor is the fact that Moxy has listed a property in "Manhattan/Greenwich (East 11th Street)" on its website, with a projected opening date of 2018. (Curbed has reached out for comment, and will update when we hear back.)

According to the website, it’s one of five hotels that the brand has planned in Manhattan, all of which are reportedly opening in 2017 or 2018. These include outposts in the Lower East Side, the Financial District, and Midtown.
