New York Ranger Ryan McDonagh is parting with his pad at the star-studded Sugar Loaf Condominium in Tribeca, which, at $5.75 million, comes with a whole host of features: huge windows, exposed brick, a sweet kitchen, extremely close proximity to Taylor Swift.
As the New York Observer notes, the princess of pop picked up the palatial penthouse at 155 Franklin Street back in 2014, paying Lord of the Rings director and previous noted resident Peter Jackson a cool $20 million for the building’s top two floors. (She is now in the process of combining them, and for the duration of the renovations has taken refuge with her cats in a $40,000/month West Village carriage house.)
But while it isn’t quite on the level of Swift’s highly Instagrammable abode, McDonagh’s three-bedroom loft has plenty going for it. Like Swift’s place (at least, pre-makeover), the place has rustic timber-beamed ceilings, swaths of exposed red brick, and excellent light. The sprawling living/dining area is warm and inviting, in an industrial-chic sort of way, while the open kitchen boasts a slate of top-notch appliances, custom white cabinetry, and a truly enormous breakfast bar. Meanwhile, the master suite comes with an over-the-top bathroom, complete with a soaking tub. Obviously, there is an in-unit washer/dryer, and as we know from Taylor, pets are allowed.
Of course, there are downsides to living so close to royalty—just ask Orlando Bloom, who fled the building after less than six months in residence, supposedly because of the mad throngs of paparazzi stalking the door.
