Barack and Michelle Obama have been spotted eyeing an apartment in a storied Upper East Side building, leading the Post to ask: Are the president and former first lady coming to New York?
The Post says multiple sources confirmed that the Obamas have been seen checking out an apartment in the far east side building close to Gracie Mansion. A duplex co-op in the building went into contract last week for $10 million, prompting speculation that the Obamas plunked down a pretty penny for the spacious corner apartment.
That five-bedroom pad was designed by Vicente Wolf and was once featured on the cover of Elle Decor, the listing with Brown Harris Stevens brags. The apartment is accessed via private elevator entry that lets onto a 29-foot central gallery. The corner living room comes with a wood-burning fireplace and views towards the East River.
The duplex also offers up a formal library with a wood-burning fireplace (a perfect place for a former president); a kitchen with a six-burner Wolf range, a concrete counter and backsplash, and a sliding wall that can close the room off; and a master bedroom with a separate sitting room and fireplace.
Representatives for the Obamas could not be reach by the Post for comment.
