The colorful Sutton Place penthouse of Amy Chanos, ex-wife of Kynikos Associates “king of short selling“ Jim Chanos, is back on the market, and sporting a hefty price cut.
Chanos first listed the duplex penthouse at 400 East 59th Street for $16 million in 2015, just four years and one major revamp after purchasing the apartment for $4.35 million. Despite the penthouse’s grandeur with its wraparound 17the floor terrace and 35-foot-long solarium, the property failed to woo a buyer at that price point.
It underwent a price chop in August 2016 down to $14.7 million, and further to $10.5 million in March 2017. The apartment’s now back on the market with Brown Harris Stevens seeking $8.995 million, or 56 percent of its original asking price.
Chanos tapped John Barman to redesign the apartment, which includes four bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, the aforementioned solarium, a library, and views towards the Queensboro Bridge.
