A new rental development is taking shape about a block away from Herald Square in Midtown. According to YIMBY, the building is set to rise 36 stories and will offer 198 units. While it seems that the project is still under construction, the city’s affordable housing site, NYC Housing Connect, has launched the lottery [PDF!] for 45 apartments.
There are 14 studios priced at $867/month that individuals earning between $31,612 and $40,080 can apply for. The bulk of the affordable apartments that are up for grabs are one-bedrooms: there are 26 of them, priced at $931/month, in which those with annual incomes between $33,875 and $45,840 can apply for. Five two-bedrooms are also up for grabs for incomes between $40,492 and $57,240 with a price tag of $1,123/month.
The building is replacing a set of older buildings that hosted a parking garage on its ground level at 38-46 West 33rd Street and seems to have been in the works for a few years now. YIMBY first revealed renderings back in 2015 and reported that the site was under excavation.
The project is being designed by Stephen B. Jacobs Group and will accommodate retail space on its ground floor while apartments will average about 800 square feet a piece. Amenities will include a fitness center, laundry room, a lounge, pool, meeting space, private party room, a 24-hour attended lobby, and a garden. There will also be a few high-end perks like a golf simulator, a dog wash, and a spa.
Applications are being accepted until December 4.
