Among the plethora of skyscrapers on the rise in Midtown, one condo building has gone relatively unnoticed, Ceruzzi and SMI USA’s 803-foot skyscraper at 138 East 50th Street. The building quietly topped out at the end of October, and is continuing to make progress towards its anticipated completion in 2019.
Designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli (SLCE is the architect of record), the building now stands 63-stories tall, and will eventually have 124 apartments. The developers have brought on Champalimaud to design the interiors and amenity spaces at the condo building.
Those amenities will include a fitness center and spa, a restaurant, a private club, outdoor terraces, an indoor pool, and others. In addition, plans also call for 7,500 square feet of commercial space on the first floor of the building.
Previously plans called for a 52-story hotel at the site of a former parking lot on East 50th Street, but those plans were eventually scrapped in favor of the condo building. No word yet on when sales will get underway, but seeing the construction timeline it could be sometime early next year.
