A new 21-story residential building is set to rise on West 72nd Street, between Broadway and West End Avenue, adding to a growing list of new skyscrapers on the rise in the neighborhood.
YIMBY first reported on the development, which will be located at 214 West 72nd Street. The building will likely replace some mid-rise buildings, but demolition plans have yet to be filed.
The building will hold just 20 apartments—one apartment per floor, and a commercial space on the ground floor—which YIMBY says indicates a condo building. Apartments here will average nearly 1,500 square feet, and residents in the building will have access to bicycle storage, and recreation spaces—though details on the latter are yet to be revealed.
Plans filed with the city’s Department of Buildings reveal SK Development as the developer on the project, and GreenbergFarrow as the architect. The project will be located next to the 1,2,3 subway stop at 72nd Street, and the neighborhood’s Trader Joe’s.
YIMBY estimates that construction will get underway in the spring of 2018, and wrap two years later. In recent months, developers have proposed a 775-foot residential building in the neighborhood; work on Robert A.M. Stern’s condo next to Zabar’s is making progress; and the starchitect-designed Waterline Square has topped out.
