For $18.5M, a Park Avenue penthouse with an epic terrace and extra apartment

New, 16 comments

The bonus apartment is located on the ground floor

This offering at the luxury cooperative 1185 Park Avenue, in Carnegie Hill, is quite the package. It includes a four-bedroom, 4,500-square-foot penthouse apartment with a private wrap-around terrace, along with a separate six-room apartment for live/work purposes on the first floor.

While the bonus apartment doesn't come with any skyline views, it's lined with eight windows facing Park Avenue. The whole shebang is asking $18.5 million.

A private elevator landing opens up to the penthouse, which has more than 1,700 square feet of outdoor space. Large picture windows look out at the terrace—which quite literally wraps around most of the apartment—from every room. From that ridiculous bit of outdoor real estate, there are views of the Empire State Building, One World Trade, and sunsets over Central Park and the reservoir.

Details throughout the apartment include floor-to-ceiling bookcases, a wood-burning fireplace, and double door access to the terrace. A formal dining room is large enough for big dinner parties, while a more casual family room holds a billiard table and drop-down movie screen.

The huge eat-in chef's kitchen, lined with three windows, boasts an ice machine, Sub-Zero refrigerator, two Miele dishwashers, and eight-burner double oven range.

There are four bedrooms, located in their own "wing"; the corner master suite, lined with Venetian plastered walls, comes with two walk-in closets, plus its own private entrance to the terrace. Another bedroom boasts custom designer built-ins and a private entrance to the terrace, while the third bedroom has views of the terrace and the building courtyard.

1185 Park Avenue, designed in 1929 by Schwartz & Gross, is impressive on its own, boasting a Gothic triple-arch entrance with a circular driveway, along with its own grand courtyard.
