Since Ceruzzi Properties changed tack on their East 50th Street site and decided to go the route of condos instead of a hotel, construction has been progressing steadily on what will soon be a 803-foot skyscraper.

New construction site photos by NyConstructionPhoto reveal that the building is now about a half a dozen floors above ground. Foundation work got underway in September last year, and the project seems to have made significant progress since.

Plans at this Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects-designed building call for 124 apartments spread out over 63 floors. Apartments here will average a pretty spacious 1,706 square feet, and there are also plans for retail on the ground and cellar levels.

Ceruzzi purchased this site, located at 138 East 50th Street, from Extell in the summer of 2014, and at the time the developer was intending to build a 52-story hotel with 764 rooms. Having put the hotel plan behind, Ceruzzi is hoping to wrap construction on this condo tower sometime in 2018, according to YIMBY.

Just a few blocks away on Fifth Avenue, between West 43rd and 44th Streets, Ceruzzi has planned a 71-story building for a while now, but construction was yet to get underway as of December last year.
