Cornell Tech unveils details about its Roosevelt Island campus hotel

Meet the Graduate Roosevelt Island

Late last year, Cornell Tech presented plans for the hotel at its Roosevelt Island campus, and today, the wchool, along with developer AJ Capital Partners, has revealed a few more details about the project.

As a Graduate Hotel—the “thoughtfully crafted collection” has locations in college towns across the country, including Berkeley, CA; Ann Arbor, MI; Bloomington, IN; and Charlottesville, VA—the Graduate Roosevelt Island will offer 196 rooms, as well as a full-service restaurant, rooftop bar, and 5,200 square feet of “flexible meeting and event facilities.”

The hotel, designed by Snøhetta, will “reference the history of Roosevelt Island”—though how, exactly, is unclear—but will also provide modern amenities and a “comfortable residential aesthetic” geared toward the families of students, as well as visiting faculty and other Cornell guests, who will be its primary customers.

Slated to open in 2019, the Graduate Roosevelt Island will be located in the heart of campus, alongside the Verizon Executive Education Center, also slated to debut in 2019. The first phase of the campus will open this coming September, though the entirety of the three-phase project isn’t expected to be realized until 2043.
