The second Upper West Side location has been rumored for some time now

Grocery chain Trader Joe’s is set to open two new stores in New York by the year’s end, the company announced on its website on Friday. Patch.com first reported the news, but at least one of the two new stores has been rumored for some time now.

The one we’re referring to will be located on the Upper West Side, on Columbus Avenue and West 93rd Street, just a few blocks south of the Whole Foods Market in the neighborhood. The opening of this store was first hinted at last summer, and Trader Joe’s has confirmed that it will open at the base of 670 Columbus Avenue, occupying a 20,000 square foot space there.

The second store will open in Soho, at the base of One Soho Square West, a massive office building at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Spring Street. It’s not yet clear how much space Trader Joe’s will be leasing at 233 Spring Street, but the western portion of the two-building development does have sizable retail space.

Aside from the confirmation, details are still scarce on both stores save for the fact that they will open sometime late 2017.

In August last year, Trader Joe’s opened a new location in Kips Bay. A second Brooklyn outpost will also open this year in Downtown Brooklyn. Yet another new location will open within the Essex Crossing megaproject in 2018. Other stores have also been rumored in the East Village and Williamsburg.
