A little over a month after the soft launch, the American Copper Buildings in Kips Bay are now welcoming its first residents. This also marks the official leasing launch on the development, which comes with 761 apartments spread out between a 41-story and a 48-story tower overlooking the East River.
The developer declined to provide information on how many apartments had leased in the pre-official launch stage, but the units on the market in February started from $2,975 per month for a studio.
Among the apartments released today, prices start at $3,200 per month for a studio, $4,500 per month for one-bedrooms, and $6,650 per month for two-bedrooms. The two-tower project also comes with three-bedroom residences (some of then penthouses), but those have yet to come online.
Apartments here will come fitted with oak flooring, custom light fixtures, marble countertops and backsplashes in the kitchen along with Miele appliances, antique brass detailing in the bathrooms, and Bosch washers & dryers in each unit. Apartments also feature floor-to-ceiling windows, and ceiling heights of up to 9’7”.
What really sets this rental apartment from other rental projects, aside from the copper-clad exterior of course, is the range of amenities offered here—many of which often aren’t found in some of the city’s priciest condo buildings.
For one, there’s the three-story skybridge connecting the two towers on floors 27-29 that’s packed with amenities including a 75-foot indoor lap pool, a Whirlpool hot tub, and a residents’ bar and lounge.
Amenities right off the skybridge include a double-height fitness center courtesy of La Palestra that also comes with a rock climbing wall, and offers great views of the city, a marble hammam with a plunge pool, a yoga studio, a spa with treatment rooms, a children’s playroom, and a juice bar.
Phew! But it doesn’t end there. The East Tower’s rooftop comes with an infinity pool with an outdoor shower, a landscaped bar, and areas for grilling and eating. Moving right down to the ground level, each of the towers come with 25-foot-tall lobbies that both overlook a newly created landscaped park with a fountain.
This project was first announced in 2013 after Michael Stern of JDS Development purchased the lot from Sheldon Solow. SHoP Architects were brought on to design the towers, and they’ve stayed true to the renderings. Construction on the rentals has moved on steadily since, with the buildings topping out in early 2016. JDS co-developed the building with Largo.
The project at 626 First Avenue was named the American Copper Buildings in April last year, after the building’s facade material, and we got a look at the first interior renderings for the building last August. Those too have stayed pretty true to the finished units that are now being marketed exclusively by Citi Habitats New Developments.
In the coming years, JDS’s project will be joined by several new buildings adding to the development surge in Kips Bay, including the NYU Langone expansion, a 13-story condo developed by Extell, and a 34-story tower designed by SLCE Architects.
