The Alamo Drafthouse’s newest New York City location will be on Staten Island. Along with supermarket chain, ShopRite, the dine-in cinema will open in a new mall in Staten Island’s New Dorp neighborhood, Staten Island Live reports.
Plans for this new shopping center, know as the Boulevard, call for the existing open-air shopping center at Hylan Plaza to be transformed into 440,000 square feet of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues like the movie theater.
The project has been in the works for a few years now, but construction is scheduled to get underway in earnest by the end of the summer or early fall this year. Existing shops at the Plaza started shuttering towards the end of last year, and early this year, to make way for the new shopping center that’s being developed by Kimco Realty.
At the Boulevard, ShopRite will occupy about 68,000 square feet of space, moving from a nearby location to the new mall. Alamo Drafthouse will take up 41,000 square feet and offer up 1,000 seats spread out between nine or 10 screens. A few stores that are part of the existing complex will reopen in the new space, including Modell’s, and Game Stop. In addition, several shops on a nearby retail strip are also expected to move to the mall once it opens.
The Boulevard will have enough space for about 50 stores with the available square footage for each ranging from 1,500 square feet to 80,000 square feet. The new mall is set to open sometime in the summer of 2019.
