For whatever reason, Memorial Day doesn’t have a big parade in Manhattan like many other holidays do, however, there are several other parades happening in each of the outer boroughs: there are two parades in Brooklyn as well as one in Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx.
According to their website, the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade hosts the holiday’s largest parade in the nation and will mark its 90th anniversary this year. This year, parade participants will once again come together on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m. to honor veterans and fallen heroes. Here’s the parade’s route and corresponding street closures, courtesy of the city’s Department of Transportation:
Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade
The following streets will be closed Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade as permitted by NYPD.
Formation:
- Northern Boulevard between Glenwood Street and Morgan Street
Route:
- Northern Boulevard between Morgan Street and Alameda Avenue
Dispersal:
Northern Boulevard between 247th Street and Alameda Avenue
The city’s oldest Memorial Day parade takes place right in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Kicking off on Monday, May 29 at 11 a.m., the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade will celebrate its 150th anniversary. The event is led by Catholic war veterans, with performances from local school bands, and is sponsored by the United Military Veterans of Kings County.
150th Kings County Memorial Day Parade
The following streets will be closed Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the 150th Kings County Memorial Day Parade as permitted by NYPD.
Formation:
- 3rd Avenue between 75th Street and 77th Street
