The landlord facing multiple charges for the deadly 2015 East Village gas explosion, which killed two people and injured more than a dozen others, claims the real blame lies with the management company hired to install the gas meters, according to the New York Post.
In a new lawsuit, Maria Hrynenko, one of four facing manslaughter charges for the blast, alleges that Andrick Management LLC—the management company hired to install gas meters in the basement of one of her three buildings—was “negligent in its work and failed to warn people about hazardous conditions,” the Post reports.
In addition to manslaughter, Hrynenko is facing charges of criminally negligent homicide, assault, and reckless endangerment, since authorities have traced the cause of the explosion back to her illegally installed gas delivery system.
The Post was unable to reach Andrick for comment.
Last December, Mayor de Blasio signed off on a series of ten new gas safety bills, designed to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
