Sculptor Richard Serra is the new owner of a Tribeca floor-through co-op with a sunny artist’s studio, public records indicate (h/t LLNYC). The large-format sculptor snagged the apartment on Duane Street between Greenwich and Staple streets, in a building in which he’s already an owner, for an even $7 million.
Serra purchased the co-op from fellow artist Merrill Steiger, who listed the apartment for $7.95 million in January of this year. Steiger held onto the 4,200-square-foot apartment since 2008, when she laid out $3.85 million for the space.
Serra’s second apartment in the building, a $3.925 million four-bedroom, three-bathroom spread he purchased in 2011, appears to be on the floor directly above his new digs. Could the acclaimed artist be eyeing a combination? Possibly.
Serra’s new buy has 11-foot ceilings in the living room, an open concept kitchen and dining room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and the aforementioned studio space.
