Well, that didn’t take long. Just a couple of weeks after getting a peek inside the ODA New York-designed condo dubbed “Charlie West,” sales for the twin-building development, located on 43rd Street between Tenth and Eleventh avenues, have officially launched. The building’s 123 units, spread out over two 16-story towers, are a mix of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedrooms, along with penthouses.
The development has been in the works since 2014, when Elad Group (working with a co-developer, Mi&Co) first filed plans for the condo; ODA New York was brought on as the architect soon after. To get to this point, they first had to plan to build a platform over the existing Amtrak rails. But now that’s done, and construction on the building is expected to wrap in 2018, with residents moving in soon after.
As for the apartments themselves, they’ve been kitted out by interior designer Andres Escobar, who “fuse[d] raw, natural materials with sumptuous textures” for the units. That translates into oak flooring, Calacutta marble and walnut bathrooms, and custom kitchens fitted with lacquer cabinets and wood accents.
One of the selling points of the development is its spate of amenities, which are intended to be “an extension of your home,” per the website. Those include a lobby with a loungey atmosphere, a swimming pool that links to a communal terrace, a kid’s room, and even a snazzy bike lounge, all designed by Escobar.
As for pricing, studios start at $700,000—though currently, the least expensive apartment for sale is a 503-square-foot unit going for $805,000—and increase from there, with the priciest apartment right now being a four-bedroom penthouse with outdoor space for $4.9 million. Just about a dozen apartments hit the market today, with more to come in the future.
