$65M penthouse at Robert A.M. Stern’s 70 Vestry is in contract

New, 3 comments

This is the building’s second pricey penthouse to find a buyer this year

Well, that was fast. Just a few months after 70 Vestry’s priciest apartment was revealed—and seven months after the building’s $50 million penthouse entered into contract—that trophy property is now off the market. The Wall Street Journal reports that the $65 million penthouse, situated on the building’s top two floors, is now in contract.

Depending on how much the apartment closes for, it could become the priciest property ever sold downtown—a record that’s currently held by Walker Tower’s $50.9 million penthouse, which closed in 2014. (If you drill down into Tribeca, the priciest sale was a $47.8 million penthouse at 56 Leonard—so yeah, expect that to change.)

No word yet on the buyer of the palatial space; whoever they are, though, they’ll be getting a home that spans more than 7,800 square feet with another 3,700 square feet of outdoor space. The penthouse boasts five bedrooms, four kitchens (!), a solarium, a library, and a massive wraparound roof deck.

The building has been a magnet for buyers looking for a ridiculously high level of privacy—see also Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen, who purchased a $20 million apartment there last year—and according to the WSJ, the buyer of this penthouse is no different. There’s a drive-in courtyard as well as an automated garage that both helps shield residents as they come and go.

Construction on the limestone-clad building is still underway and move-ins are expected to begin around spring 2018.
