The landmarked building located at 815 Fifth Avenue is finally moving forward with plans to transform into what developers are touting as an alternative to “one of those tall 57th Street buildings,” says its architect.
According to The Real Deal, Brazilian developer JHSF Participacoes S.A. has filed an offering plan to construct a contemporary 14-story condo building with seven luxury duplex apartments that will average roughly 3,700 square feet each. The building itself will feature an Art Deco-inspired design, which is quite different from the slew of the glassy buildings that are on the rise along Billionaires’ Row.
Back in 2013, architect Timothy Greer faced opposition from the community when he presented designs for the building to the Landmarks Preservation Commission who then agreed that it was too contemporary for the area. After several revisions, he managed to get the neighborhood on board with his limestone and brick design.
Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet for the duplexes but a few details give an idea as to what one can expect. Living rooms will span the width of the building and some units will likely get to enjoy views of Central Park since the building will face that direction.
JHSF Participacoes S.A. bought the building in 2012 from investor Robert Haskell for $32 million.
