Good news about Governors Island just keeps on rolling in. A few weeks ago, it was announced that the popular park would extend its season until the end of October, giving New Yorkers the chance to experience fall on Governors Island for the first time.
Now, the Trust for Governors Island has announced that it’ll extend the park’s hours on Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. for a chance to see the sun set from a different side of town (h/t Gothamist).
Before you get too excited, there’s a caveat: The island will stay open late on just two days this month—August 11 and 18—to give New Yorkers the an opportunity to enjoy the sunset from the park’s Hills, which come with Instagram-ready views of the Manhattan skyline and New York Harbor. There’ll also be food and drink options available, including Island Oyster and Governors Island Beer Co.
And there’s a chance that Governors Island could have more late-night dates in the near future. According to the Trust for Governors Island, the park is depending on new memberships to keep the party going on August 24 and September 1.
