A massive affordable housing complex in Soundview, in the Bronx, has now launched the lottery on 211 apartments. These apartments come in studio through three-bedroom variants and rents start at $865/month.
The units are being offered at four different income brackets: 60, 90, 95, and 125 percent of the area median income, which can translate to annual incomes that range between $31,543 to $151,250, depending on the family size and apartment type. A majority of the apartments here are one and two-bedroom homes, indicating that the project is more geared toward families.
This particular development is located at 1530 Story Avenue, and is part of a two-building affordable housing project undertaken by Nelson Management and L+M Development. Amenities at 1530 Story Avenue include an on-site super, a card-operated laundry room, a bike room, a courtyard, a playground, and a fitness center that can be accessed for additional fees.
The buildings at 1530 and 1520 Story Avenue are part of the larger rent-stabilized complex in Soundview called Lafayette Boynton. Nelson Management purchased the complex in 2011, and renovated it in 2015. Nelson brought on L+M to partner on the new buildings in the complex along with landscaped open space that will be accessible to the entire complex.
Curtis+Ginsberg Architects are designing the new towers, and the project will also bring 366 new parking spots to the complex. Construction on both buildings is scheduled to wrap next summer. The new buildings are just one of several new affordable housing projects coming to the South Bronx in the near future.
