A 42-story rental just a few blocks away from Grand Central Terminal has now launched the lottery on its 109 affordable apartments. The building’s affordable apartments come in studios through two-bedroom variants with prices starting from $613/month.
The affordable units at 222 East 44th Street are being offered in three income bands: 40, 60, and 130 percent of area median income, which covers a wide-range of incomes that go from $22,903/year to $135,590/year, depending on unit type and family size.
For additional fees, residents in the affordable units will also be able to access the host of amenities the building has to offer including an indoor swimming pool, an indoor basketball and squash court, an outdoor deck with barbecue, and a golf simulator, among many other features.
The project is being developed by BLDG Management, and Handel Architects designed the tower. Aside from the affordable apartments here, the building will have over 300 market-rate rentals, leasing on which is expected to get underway later this year, according to CityRealty.
The project came about after the developer purchased a 10-story parking garage back in 2014 for $32 million. That was demolished to make way for the rental. Prospective tenants have until July 2 to apply for the affordable rentals.
