A new housing development taking shape at 4511 and 4439 Third Avenue in the Bronx, as well as at 2256 Bathgate Avenue (which is on the same block), has launched the lottery for 218 affordable studios through three-bedrooms.
The development, named Cooper Gardens, is located on the Saint Barnabas Hospital campus and is being constructed through the city’s Extremely Low & Low Income Affordability program (ELLA), with a focus on providing services that reduce health inequalities, reports the Bronx Times.
Applicants earning 60 percent of the area median income, which translates to between $32,543 and $72,600 (depending on the apartment and household size). There are 16 studios that rent for $865/month, 118 one-bedrooms priced at $929/month, 45 two-bedrooms that go for $1,121/month, and 39 three-bedrooms each priced at $1,289/month.
Building amenities will be modest with a laundry room and a community outdoor space, however, Bronx Times reports that the housing development will also feature a teaching kitchen that hospital personnel will use to educate residents about nutrition and healthy eating, along with a rooftop garden where residents can grow produce.
The deadline to apply is July 10.
