Update: On Tuesday, developers Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group announced that 30 Hudson Yards had officially topped out after the final beam was placed on the steel crown that morning.
“The topping out of 30 Hudson Yards, and completion of its steel crown, represents another important milestone as we approach the neighborhood’s March 2019 opening,” said L. Jay Cross, President of Related Hudson Yards.
The building is expected to open sometime next year, however, its 1,100-foot-high observation deck won’t open to the public until 2020.
Less than a month after 35 Hudson Yards topped out, its neighbor, 30 Hudson Yards is very close to topping out. YIMBY was the first to report on the topping out news. At 1,296 feet, 30 Hudson Yards is now officially the tallest tower within Related Companies and Oxford Properties Group’s Hudson Yards megaproject.
Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, 30 Hudson Yards will be home to bigwigs like HBO, Time Warner, and CNN. The office tower will also be the building where the developers set base. It has now been four years since construction got underway on the supertall, and the skyscraper has made steady progress over the years.
One of the most notable features of this supertall will be the sky-high observation deck. At more than 1,000 feet above ground, the observation deck will be the highest outdoor observation deck in the western hemisphere. It will be surrounded by a nine-foot-tall glass wall, and have a windowed floor. The observation deck floor will also be home to a 10,000 square foot restaurant. Work on 30 Hudson Yards is scheduled to wrap sometime next year.
Correction: A previous version of this article stated that the building had topped out but a representative for the developer said there are still 200 pieces of steel left before the building tops out. The building has however reached its full height.
