Take, for example, 500 West 25th Street: Once home to an auto-body shop (one of many that was torn down as the area around the High Line experienced hypergentrification), the lot is now in the process of becoming a luxury condo from Michael Kirchmann and Alan Rudikoff of GDS Development. As of today, a teaser site for the new development has launched, and a new rendering for the project—which will sit next to the elevated park, with a cantilever that juts out above it—has been revealed.
“Adjacent to the High Line and surrounded by West Chelsea’s historic buildings and its iconic new architecture, this site has captivated me for years,” Kirchmann tells Curbed. “Our vision was to design a building that would resonate with the visual language of all of these landmarks as it takes its place in Manhattan’s evolving skyline.”
And like much of the real estate that’s popped up along the High Line, this one is going to be plenty lavish: The building will have just eight full-floor apartments, with seven three-bedroom units (all of which will have private terraces overlooking the elevated park), and one duplex penthouse —with two loggias, a roof terrace, and other plush perks—occupying the top floors. Those residential portion of the structure encompass 22,000 square feet, so expect units themselves to be large (with the prices to match).
The development will also have 2,650 square feet of ground-floor retail space. No launch date has been announced yet, but Compass will be handling sales once the apartments are on the market.
