The couple have called Brooklyn home for more than a decade

One of Park Slope’s most famous celebrity couples, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, are officially moving on from Brooklyn: The Wall Street Journal reports that the actors, who’ve been married since 2009, are selling their home on Sterling Place for $4.599 million.

The reason they’re ditching the neighborhood, according to Gyllenhaal, is—unsurprisingly for a Park Slope family—spurred by their kids. The couple moved to the area before their first daughter was born in 2006, but now the kids are grown. “The motivation for moving was to be able to walk [the children] to school,” the Deuce actor told the WSJ.

The home itself is a beaut: It’s a four-story townhouse located on a block that’s part of the recently expanded Park Slope Historic District. While the house dates back to the 1880s, the couple hired architect Elizabeth Roberts (who knows a thing or two about renovating Brooklyn townhouses) to revamp it. It has four bedrooms (including a full-floor master bedroom with an office and sumptuous bathroom, complete with wooden bathtub imported from Scotland), several working fireplaces (two of which are from the Dutch company Rais), and a projector screen on the parlor floor.

There’s also a lovely, 55-foot-deep backyard that was Sarsgaard’s domain; it’s filled with plants and has its own outdoor bathtub. It also gets plenty of light—one of the reasons the couple chose the home—so other aspiring green thumbs could keep it looking lush.
