Charming Nolita co-op featured in ‘Modern Love’ wants $3.5 million

The home has plenty of old-world details

A Nolita apartment featured in Amazon Prime’s Modern Love as the home of Anne Hathaway’s character Lexi, has just listed, asking $3.5 million. The co-op is located on the parlor floor of a landmarked, historic Victorian Gothic building.

The unit has 1,800 square feet of living space, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living room, a sitting area that can be used as a home office, and a decorative fireplace. It comes with a ton of closet space, including a walk-in closet, a dishwasher and an in-unit washer/dryer.

It has plenty of charming old-world details in its interiors, including large windows with arches and restored millwork, a marble mantle surrounding its fireplace, an antique Italian crystal chandelier, original cast iron columns, and antique longleaf pine floors, which, according to the listing, were reclaimed from beams in a Louisiana textile mill.

The four-story carved stone and terra cotta building was built between 1888 and 1889 by Vaux & Radford as the Fourteenth Ward Industrial School (also known as Astor Memorial School) for the Children’s Aid Society. Until 1913, it served as an industrial and night school for the neighborhood’s Italian community, the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) designation report says.

In 1972, the unit was converted into a co-op and designated a city landmark in 1977. It’s located at 256 Mott Street, between East Houston and Prince streets, near the R and W trains at Prince.
