A decade ago, musician Norah Jones made waves in Cobble Hill when she purchased a historic townhouse on Amity Street, and proceeded to renovate the exterior by (gasp!) adding new windows to the facade. Though it provoked the ire of the Cobble Hill Association, the renovation was ultimately completed without much more fuss—and now, 10 years later, Jones is listing the home for $8 million.
“It’s a very special, warm home,” Jones told the Wall Street Journal, which first reported the news. “It always felt like an escape from city life.”
The house, which dates back to 1843, has five bedrooms and three bathrooms spread out over its four stories. Many of its circa-1843 details remain, including, per the Landmarks Preservation Commission report for the surrounding historic district, “beautiful Greek Revival ironwork, with a magnificent vertical swirl at the end of the railing. But Jones made some modern additions, including a heated pool and hot tub in the expansive backyard that can be hidden when they’re not in use.
Other features include a kitchen with high-end appliances, a sun room on the parlor level, a master suite with a 300-square-foot terrace, beamed ceilings, and custom decorations (including a wet bar made out of teak).
Jones originally purchased the home for $4.9 million in 2009, and in 2015, snagged another home (that was featured in Eat, Pray, Love) just a few blocks away on Pacific Street.
Jones’s home on Amity Street is listed with Sonia Brown and Ryan Serhant of Nest Seekers.
