Welcome to Curbed Comparisons, a weekly column that explores what one can buy for a set dollar amount in various NYC neighborhoods. Is one man’s studio another man’s townhouse? Let’s find out! Today, we’re looking at apartments for sale for around $600,000.
Upper East Side
For $585,000, there’s this small but stylishly renovated studio on the Upper East Side. (The listing calls it “the perfect pied-à-terre,” but someone who has a minimalist approach to life could make this their full-time home.) Everything here is new, and there’s a surprising amount of storage space given the size of the place. It’s less than a block from Central Park.
Prospect Lefferts Gardens
Close to another park—that would be Prospect—this one-bedroom in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is going for $595,000. The layout for this co-op apartment is a little odd (it’s basically a railroad), but the rooms are spacious, and there’s plenty of closet space. It’s a block or so from Prospect Park, as well as the B and Q trains at Prospect Park.
Lower East Side
This Lower East Side one-bedroom is asking $599,000, but take note: it’s located in an HDFC co-op, so income restrictions do apply for potential buyers. But if you fit into that bracket, it’s a cute space: Closet space is minimal, but the place is clean and bright, with a functional kitchen and a new bathroom. It’s located on Attorney Street, just a few blocks from the subway hub at Delancey Street-Essex Street.
Jackson Heights
For $578,500, there’s a big one-bedroom in Jackson Heights with tons of storage space. The apartment has a big living room and bedroom, a kitchen with new appliances and cabinetry, and a large bathroom. It’s located in a co-op building that has its own private garden, and is just a couple of blocks from Roosevelt Avenue, the neighborhood’s major artery.
Chelsea
And finally, a small renovated studio in Chelsea is going for $575,000. While it doesn’t have a ton of space, the apartment has plenty of nice attributes: big windows, a renovated kitchen with sleek new appliances, and the benefit of a central location within the neighborhood (on 21st Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues). The building itself has a roof deck and 24-hour doorman.
