Dockless bike share pilot will continue in the Rockaways this summer

A year after the city first rolled out its bike share pilot program in the Rockaways, one of its program providers announced its expansion. This week, Lime announced that it will increase the number of e-bikes available in the Rockaways from 400 to 600, and that it will extend the pilot program through September.

According to a Lime statement, there have been 90,000 individual rides since its launch almost a year ago.

“We are proud of Lime’s continued success in the Rockaways, and hope to spread this success to other parts of the city,” Phil jones, senior director of East Coast government relations and strategic partnerships at Lime, said in a statement.

Last fall, one of the city’s providers, Pace, announced it was pulling out of the program due to a decline in ridership as temperatures were cooling down.

The city’s pilot also included Fordham, Staten Island’s North Shore, and Coney Island. And following its success in the North Shore, a little over a month ago, the Department of Transportation put out request for expressions of interest (RFEI) to expand the program in Staten Island.
