The tony enclave of Brooklyn Heights is home to some of Brooklyn’s priciest real estate—including this townhouse at 88 Remsen Street, between Henry and Hicks streets, which is one of the most expensive properties for sale in the borough.
The home hit the market for $18 million back in September including a carriage house, and it has now re-listed without it, asking $13.5 million. At one point, the property was the priciest home ever sold in the borough, after fetching $10.8 million back in 2008. But those times are far gone: Just a month ago, a condo penthouse sold—also in Brooklyn Heights—for a record-breaking $20 million.
This particular house, which dates back to the 19th century, has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a home office, a garden, and two terraces. Many of its original details remain, including crown moldings and fireplace mantels, and there are the high ceilings and lovely arched doorways that you’d expect from a historic Brooklyn Heights mansion.
But the house has also gotten some upgrades over the years: The kitchen has new appliances and shaker-style cabinets, while in the basement, there’s a game room with a jukebox and foosball table (not exactly period-appropriate, but hey).
The home at 88 Remsen Street is listed with Nancy Giddins of Brown Harris Stevens.
Correction: This piece originally stated that the listing included a carriage house, and though it did when it hit the market in September 2019, it does not include it now. Curbed regrets the error.
