Queens residents, rejoice! The borough will soon be getting its own Ikea.
Five months after opening the doors of its Upper East Side “planning studio,” the Swedish home goods giant announced that it’s bringing a new store to Queens’s Rego Center mall.
Located at the corner of Queens and Junction boulevards, the 115,000-square-foot store will offer several services, including assembly, installation, and home delivery, as well as food options “to allow guests to enjoy a modern taste of Sweden on the go,” a statement from the company says. The store will have Ikea products for purchase and takeaway but larger furniture items will only be on display and available for delivery.
“With a growing community of more than 900,000 households, Queens was a natural next destination for Ikea in New York City,” Leontyne Green Sykes, Ikea Retail U.S. chief operating officer, said in a statement. “We know that more than half of Queens’ residents travel via public transportation, and we selected Rego Park for this new store concept to meet the unique needs of this customer.”
The store is slated to open in the summer of 2020 and it will join two other Ikea locations including the Upper East Side store and the larger Red Hook outpost.
