Developer says Upper West Siders are interested in contested 52-story tower
Upper West Side preservationists have fought 200 Amsterdam Avenue tooth and nail, but now that the 668-foot tall tower is on the rise, many of those interested in snapping up one of the building’s condos are from the neighborhood, the Real Deal reports.
The 52-story skyscraper, which topped out in August and is expected to be completed this year, was fiercely opposed by advocacy groups and local officials arguing that it was built on an unlawfully crafted, “gerrymandered” lot, between 69th and 70th streets.
As we previously reported, the building will have 112 apartments in total, with one-bedrooms starting at $2.625 million.
In an interview with Mansion Global, Developer Steve Pozycki, CEO of SJP Properties, attributed locals’ interest in the building to “the pent-up demand in the neighborhood due to a lack of construction.”
