There's constant chatter about New York City's ever-growing technology sector?some even predict a general migration of trend-setting entrepreneurs and programming gurus from Silicon Valley to the Big Apple?and this week, New Yorkers have the opportunity to visit the offices of more than 130 tech companies and start-ups. As part of OpenCo. NY, an event described as "a mix between a business conference and an artist's open studio," companies will open their doors to us plebes, hosting tours, talks, and more.
The list of participating businesses is extensive, so we dug through the offerings to pick out 12 companies with the coolest designed workspaces in the city. Make sure to sign up for the event and then schedule your office visiting sessions all before the deadline at 6 p.m. EST on Tuesday. From Google's playful Chelsea office, complete with scooters and fire hydrants that evoke a sense of place, to MakerBot's 3D printing "bot farm," there's no shortage of inspiring design to be ogled. Kind of makes you want to ditch bland, monotonous cubicle culture altogether, huh?
