The Landmarks Preservation Commission has voted to landmark the twin cast-iron buildings at 827-831 Broadway on account of their significant architecture and cultural history.
Councilwoman Rosie Mendez has said she won’t approve plans for the 258,000-square-foot Union Square Tech Hub unless the city agrees to rezone a few blocks nearby.
Ben Shaoul, who owns a building next to the construction project at 809 Broadway, has been hit with a lawsuit claiming he purposefully tried to hold the project up in hopes of buying it at a discounted sum.
The apartment certainly isn’t lacking for high-end finishes whether its the Stone Italiana floors in the sunken living room, the dining table that seats 10 or the electric fireplace that comes in the master bathroom.
Spread across nearly 2,300 square feet, the condo in 15 Union Square West features a grand living room designed by Vicente Wolf, arched floor-to-ceiling windows, a sculptural stainless steel and glass staircase, and more.
Just over a month after a rendering emerged for the Morris Adjmi-designed condo building near Union Square, the developers have now revealed that sales on the seven-story building’s six, full-floor condos will get underway this fall.
The project was made possible after Ranger Properties shelled out $22 million on two adjacent buildings last year at the corner of East 13th Street and University Place. It’s one of several condos planned south of Union Square.
The new building will be known as 44 Union Square and will have six floors of offices including a two and a half floor, tortoise shell-shaped glass dome at the top. Landmarks was initially opposed to this addition, but approved a scaled back version.
