Design and art collide at these New York City cultural institutions
The addition will replace an existing building next door to the museum
The museum will not charge admission and extend its hours on December 2 and 3.
The expansion will double the footprint of the overall museum by creating new galleries and flexible spaces for new types of exhibits.
Artists and activists will gather on the Lower East Side to discuss the future of cities, and the role culture plays.
The Museum landed its SANAA-designed Bowery building in 2007 after having started off as a single-room space with a three person team in 1977. Now it's looking to expand to an adjacent building at 231 Bowery.
